Did you know...kids spend twice as long playing on screens as they do playing outside?? We have a challenge for that but first let's learn about screen time.

Technology has quickly become a basic part of everyday life. The internet itself has only been around since 1983. The iPhone was invented in 2007, which is less than 16 years ago! Technology’s integration into daily activities like grocery shopping, studying, or staying entertained has made our lives easier, healthier and happier!

It provides kids with many benefits like:

  • Instant Access to Education
  • Problem Solving Skills
  • Improved Motor Skills

However, it is possible to have too much of a good thing! Too much tech can cause:

  • Eye Strain
  • Moodiness
  • Trouble Sleeping

So how much is too much? According to The American Academy of Pediatrics, children should limit their screen time to no more than 2 hours per day.

Limiting your screen time has many benefits like:

  • Improved sleep
  • Improved physical health
  • Better focus and brain function

Changing habits like our daily screen time can be a challenge but also rewarding. Decreasing the amount of time we spend in front of screens allows us to spend our time elsewhere. Trying other activities that don’t involve a screen is an easy way to decrease your screen time throughout the day. Check out our Screen Free Me challenge to learn about other activities you can add to your day to monitor your screen time! Here are a few ideas:

  • Play outside
  • Read a book
  • Complete a KidsFit workout video
  • Do chores
  • Finish homework

Build your habits around screen time at home.
