MACRO & MICRO NUTRIENTS

When planning snacks and meals it is important to choose food with lots of nutrients. Nutrients are the things in food that our bodies need to grow and be healthy. Nutrients can be separated into two groups, macronutrients and micronutrients.

MACRONUTRIENTS: We do the big jobs!

These are the big guys! Macronutrients can be broken down into three key players: Carbohydrates, Fats, and Proteins. These nutrients appear in larger quantities and give our bodies the most energy. They handle all the big jobs in our body like providing energy for movement and repairing our muscles.

MICRONUTRIENTS: We do the small jobs!

These are the workers behind the scenes! Micronutrients are also known as vitamins & minerals, we get from them from the food we eat. They take care of the smaller jobs like keeping our cells healthy, improving our vision, and moving things around our bodies. They also work to assist the Macronutrients with their jobs!

It's important to eat a variety of nutrients, to learn more about different nutrients click on one of the Nutrient Spotlights below! Stay tuned for more Nutrient Spotlights to come!
